This production will be a full length play performed entirely by middle school students. In order to be a part of this production the student must currently be in 4th through 8th grade. They also need to have some prior theater experience (A USP show, Drama Camp, Missoula etc). We will be having students run every aspect of the show from directing to acting. We will be putting this show together essentially in one week (a total of 10 rehearsals). Therefore, if you cannot be present on any of the days listed please do not apply. We will not be able to work around any schedules.
The goal is to provide these kids with a theatrical experience where they can build upon skills they have already acquired and can learn everything that goes into putting on a show. Ultimately the show will be owned by the students. We have assembled a team of people to help them along the way and guide them.
Please download and fill out the form (link below) and return it to me via email at firstname.lastname@example.org. You can also just send me the info requested via email and I will fill it out for you. We will take the first 35 actors plus 5 production positions who get this form returned to me. We will start accepting audition forms beginning Wednesday, March 1. When you fill out the audition form please list if you would prefer an on stage role or a backstage lead role. The first 35 who request an on stage role are guaranteed an on stage role. You are not however, guaranteed the role you want. We will hold auditions on the first rehearsal day to cast the show. Our team, along with the student director will cast the show based on experience and who we think will succeed in the roles. We also have 5 backstage lead roles. Ultimately our goal is to see these kids succeed in putting together a show. As this show is being run by kids we also will require everyone to help with a behind the scenes part of the show.
This camp will cost $65 per child. There will be no cost to see the show at the end of the week!
New this year (and per request) we are adding T-shirts! There will be no additional cost for this. Please include your t-shirt size on the form. Additionally we are utilizing a new venue and a new sponsor this year! The Pella Opera House has graciously agreed to sponsor and host us for the week! All rehearsals will be help at the Pella Opera House 611 Franklin Street in Pella.
We will be putting the show together the week of June 12-17. We will be together each day from 9:00am until 3:30pm. In the morning we will be rehearsing the show, and in the afternoon we will be working on the backstage elements of the show. Students will need to bring a lunch each day. We will also have a few weekend rehearsals before that. They are Saturday May 13 (this is only for auditions), Sunday May 21, June 4, and June 11. These rehearsals will be from 2-5 in the afternoon. The rehearsals will focus on learning lines and some blocking. If you cannot be present for any of these dates please do not apply. We have so few rehearsals we cannot have people missing.
